About Excellenz von Schubert Potted Climbing Rose Bush
Rosa ‘Excellenz von Schubert’ — Excellenz von Schubert
🧬 Breeder: Peter Lambert (Germany, 1909)
🌹 A historic climbing Polyantha admired for its enormous clusters of richly colored carmine-pink blooms, strong fragrance, and graceful arching growth.
Excellenz von Schubert is one of the most beloved roses from the early twentieth century and is often considered among the finest of Peter Lambert’s introductions. Originally classified among the Lambertianas, this remarkable rose helped pave the way for the development of the Hybrid Musk class. Its abundant clusters of small, fully double flowers create an unforgettable display, covering the plant in waves of vibrant color throughout the growing season.
The blooms open in rich shades of carmine-pink to deep rose, often carrying subtle mauve tones that add depth and complexity to the color. Produced in exceptionally large clusters, the flowers create a fountain-like effect when draped over arches, pillars, fences, and garden structures. The strong, sweet fragrance further enhances its old-world appeal.
Despite its antique heritage, Excellenz von Schubert remains a vigorous and dependable garden performer. Long, arching canes clothed in dense dark-green foliage give the plant a graceful presence even when not in bloom. Its repeat-flowering habit and adaptability have made it a treasured favorite among collectors of historic roses and gardeners seeking a romantic cottage-garden climber.
