Our Passion for Roses

lovingly grown roses

Sharing our passion for roses since 2015

When Gracie and Ryan purchased their first home in 2015, Gracie, an avid gardener, had the idea to grow a rose garden in honor of her grandma.

The couple planted over 500 rose bushes and as they began blooming, Gracie shared images of the unique varieties and colors on social media. Requests started pouring in from floral designers, and as they began shipping their garden roses locally and around the country, Grace Rose Farm was born.

Sometimes the best things in life unfold without a plan. Gracie and Ryan never intended to be rose farmers, but their passion and talent for gardening was undeniable. Grace Rose Farm came from their love of creating beauty, and the satisfaction of knowing how much joy could be translated through the act of growing and sharing flowers.

The first year was pure trial and error, and their lives and house transformed - the kitchen and living room became a processing, wrapping and boxing station, and a small shed was converted into a walk-in cooler. They quickly learned about watering and fertilizing schedules; pest management and prevention; cold storage and proper shipping techniques; weather patterns and most importantly, found a new “best friend” in Mother Nature. That first year was a beautiful and exhausting blur.

Gracie and Ryan outgrew their backyard garden as demand kept rising, and they began searching for land where they could grow their newfound dream. In 2018 they purchased a 10 acre equestrian farm in the charming town of Santa Ynez, CA. Within a few weeks, they had removed acres of horse pastures, ripped up the grass, tilled and amended the soil and installed irrigation. Over the course of three weeks, they carefully transplanted 5,000 roses from their old property to their new fields where they grow 25,000 rose bushes. Since then, Grace Rose Farm has grown into a beloved brand, with over three million cut garden roses shipped annually.

In 2020 the farm grew again in big ways when Ryan and Gracie welcomed their daughter, Seraphina! The family relocated to Ventura County where they trial hundreds of roses at their farm. Grace Rose Farm has been on a quest to release new varieties of roses for home gardeners and launched their first collection in 2023.

Daily, questions pour in from Grace Rose Farm enthusiasts asking, “How can I grow roses like you?” Growing garden roses has been Gracie’s creative medium for the past decade, and now she is working on exciting projects to share her knowledge with her audience. As Grace Rose Farm continues to grow, Gracie and Ryan are reminded every day of what they realized that first year: that growing beautiful garden roses creates connections and brings joy into the world.

Today, Grace Rose Farm works with renowned rose breeders and top rose growers around the world. The farms partner with growers who share their passion and joy for roses while growing roses sustainably and providing a wonderful workplace.

We invite you to learn about our commitment to people and planet friendly garden roses.

Grace Rose Farm Begins

Our First 500 Roses

With only a plan to plant roses in our garden, a business was quickly born from our passion. We shared photos of our roses on social media and soon after, florists began to contact us for roses for their weddings. Without hesitation, we went from home gardeners to rose farmers practically overnight!

Growing & Growing

We Moved to Farmland

Demand for our garden roses quickly outgrew what we could grow in our 1/2 acre garden, so we leased our first two acres of farmland where we planted 5,000 roses. In 2017 we provided roses for more than 2,000 floral designers and learned so much about farming. It was a year of rapid growth and soaking in everything we could about caring for roses in the thousands.

Our First Farm

We Bought a Farm

We quickly outgrew our leased farmland and sought to own our own farm so we could grow more roses and cultivate the land as we saw fit for our roses. In 2018 we purchased our first farm in Santa Ynez, California. We also adopted our three beautiful Great Pyrenees dogs, Buddy, Ellie Rose and Emmie June. Life on a farm was beautiful yet hectic!

A Year of Education

Making Friends

In 2019 we held two workshops at our farm for aspiring florists and rose farmers. This year we met so many wonderful people who we still call friends and share our experiences with so we can learn from one another. We served over 3,000 wedding florists in 2019 and harvested more than 1 million stems! 2019 brought about challenging weather including multiple brutal heatwaves, wildfires, drought and an early season ending frost.

A Year of Change

A Pivotal Year

As COVID affected so many businesses, ours was no exception. While the wedding industry, our primary business at the time, was shut down due to COVID, new opportunities arose for us. In the spring of 2020, we pivoted our business to offer roses direct to flower lovers via our website and began shipping bouquets nationwide. We grew exponentially in 2020, a year we thought may be the end of our farm due to so few weddings taking place. We are so thankful that the flower lovers in the country embraced us and our roses!

We Became Parents

Seraphina Grace Rose

On May 25th, Seraphina came into the world and has been our best blessing. Her loving and selfless birthmother chose us to raise Seraphina amongst the roses and we couldn't be more grateful to her. Seraphina is smart, funny, so loving and a joy to all around her! She enjoys dancing, swimming, and being a leader at preschool.

Another New Farm

We Moved (Again)!

To keep up with demand, and be closer to our families, we decided to relocate back to Ventura County, California. We purchased our 20-acre farm in the beautiful and quaint farming community of Somis. We are surrounded by rolling hills, avocado and citrus orchards and we have perfect rose growing weather (most of the time)! Our farm is home to more than 1,000 rose varieties that we grow and evaluate for future release.

A New Partner

Alexandra Farms x GRF

In order to offer our roses all year long to consumers, we sought out the best rose growers in the world. We quickly found Alexandra Farms, a boutique grower like GRF, that grows garden roses for our clients year-round. Since Alexandra Farms is on the equator, they do not have seasonal downtime like we do in the northern hemisphere. Alexandra Farms is our closest partner and essential to GRF's offerings. They truly grow the most beautiful roses in the world!

Budding New Venture

Rose Bushes for Home Gardeners

After two years of trialing varieties at our farm, we planted our first crop of roses that would be harvested for home gardeners to grow! We made relationships with breeders around the world that are creating roses for us and our amazing rose community. We have used our connection with our rose community to listen to what they want to grow so we can bring them the finest roses for their gardens.

Curated By Gracie

New Bouquets & Bushes

In 2023 we began to offer more curated offerings from our Founder, Gracie. She interacts with our wonderful rose community online and in person when possible. She creates both rose bouquet and rose bush packages for our clients. At any given time Gracie is working on more than 50 new products and always with our clients' wishes at the heart of her choices.

A Four Year Project

Our First Book is Published

GARDEN ROSES: The Complete Guide to Growing & Arranging Spectacular Blooms is published in March 2024 by Hatchett. The book was a four year project that highlights more than 100 rose varieties and how to grow them. The book has been very well received amongst rose and flower lovers and is versatile for both beginners and experienced growers.

100 Varieties & Counting

Roses Galore

The farm's second crop of rose bushes is growing and will provide thousands of rose growers with unique, beautiful roses. This crop was more than four years in the making and a testament to Gracie's commitment to not give up on her dreams of bringing new roses to the market for gardeners. Despite numerous setbacks, Grace Rose Farm is most proud of this spectacular crop of rose bushes.
