About First Editions® Vanilla Strawberry™ Panicle Hydrangea Bare Root Hydrangea TREE
Hydrangea paniculata ‘Renhy’ PP20,670
Brand: First Editions® | Type: Panicle Hydrangea | Hardiness: USDA Zones 3–8
🍓 Creamy vanilla flowers ripen to strawberry pink and deep red—all on the same shrub.
Vanilla Strawberry™ is one of those hydrangeas that seems to get prettier as summer goes on. Enormous creamy-white flower panicles emerge in midsummer, gradually blush pink, then deepen to a rich strawberry red as nighttime temperatures cool.
Because new white flowers continue to emerge while older blooms are changing color, a mature plant can carry vanilla, pink and strawberry-red flowers at the same time.

🍓 Vanilla, Strawberry & Everything In Between
The magic of Vanilla Strawberry™ is its changing color. Flowers begin creamy white, transition through shades of blush and pink, and eventually develop their signature strawberry-red coloring.
Since blooms mature at different times, you'll often see several colors together. Cooler nighttime temperatures help intensify those pink and red tones, making late summer and early fall especially spectacular.
💛 Why Grace Rose Farm Loves It
It's basically a bouquet growing on a shrub.
We love Vanilla Strawberry™ behind roses, where its enormous changing flowers create a beautiful backdrop of cream, blush and deep pink. The blooms are also exceptional for cutting—use the younger white flowers fresh, harvest the pink blooms for late-summer arrangements, or allow them to mature for beautiful dried bouquets.
And because it's hardy to Zone 3 and flowers on new wood, it's a dependable choice for gardeners who want big hydrangea flowers without worrying about winter-damaged flower buds.
🌿 Planting & Care
Plant your bare root hydrangea in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Morning sun with some afternoon protection is especially helpful in hotter climates.
Spread the roots naturally in the planting hole, plant at approximately the same depth it was previously growing, water thoroughly and mulch the root zone. Keep newly planted hydrangeas consistently moist while they establish.
Vanilla Strawberry™ blooms on new wood, so prune in late winter or early spring before vigorous new growth begins. Once established, it can be pruned to maintain a strong, well-branched framework.
