Ten Enchanted Climbing Roses for a Garden Where Romance Always Blooms

Written By Gracielinda Poulson, Founder & Creative Director

There’s nothing quite as magical as a climbing rose in full bloom. Whether it drapes itself over an arbor like a whispered secret or wanders softly along a fence line, a true climber has a way of turning the simplest structure into a scene of pure romance.

Here, we’ve gathered ten of our most enchanted climbing roses—cherished for their beauty, vigor, fragrance, and the way they grace real gardens with effortless charm. You’ll find approximate heights and delicate fragrance notes to help you choose the perfect companion for your trellises, arches, and pergolas… all destined to bloom with a touch of enchantment.

Eden Climber®

Height: 10–12 feet
Fragrance: Light, fresh, softly floral

If you imagine a storybook rose-covered arbor, you’re probably picturing Eden. Big, cupped blooms in creamy blush and warm pink open in waves all season, creating curtains of petals. Eden’s fragrance is gentle rather than overpowering, which makes it a lovely choice near seating areas or doorways. With strong, upright canes and good disease resistance, it’s a cornerstone climbing rose in our gardens and one we recommend again and again for a first climber. Eden is the world’s loved rose for good reason!

Arborose® Quicksilver™

Height: 7–8 feet
Fragrance: Mild, sweet

Quicksilver brings a rare lavender-lilac tone to vertical spaces. Its fully double blooms have that old-fashioned, romantic form but in a cool, silvery mauve that pairs beautifully with whites, deep purples, and soft blues. It’s compact for a climber, topping out around 7–8 feet, which makes it ideal for smaller trellises, entry arches, or even large obelisks in containers. The fragrance is light but present—just enough to invite you closer. If you want unique coloring in your garden, Quicksilver is one that delivers!

Colette™

Height: 8–10 feet
Fragrance: Strong, classic old-rose / damask

Colette is what we reach for when someone says, “I want a climbing rose that smells like a rose.” Her warm shell-pink blooms are deeply cupped, cabbage-style rosettes with incredible petal count and a powerful old-rose fragrance. Colette’s growth is a bit more compact and tidy than some big climbers, so she’s perfect for a smaller arch, a porch pillar, or along a picket fence. When she’s in full flush, it’s hard not to stop and breathe in every bloom. Colette delivers old-world charm and modern rose health to the garden!

Arborose® Honeymoon™

Height: ~7 feet
Fragrance: Sweet, medium to strong old-rose scent

Honeymoon is our go-to when you want a soft, romantic white climber. Her blooms are creamy white with blush centers, opening into full, cupped flowers that look like something from a vintage wedding bouquet. She’s a compact climber—around 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide—so she’s perfect for smaller gardens, low fences, and arches where a huge rambler would be overwhelming. The fragrance is sweet and classic, exactly what you hope for in a white rose. Honeymoon’s blooms billow off the plant in large sprays that fill the vase with a single stem!

Eden Climber® Pretty in Pink

Height: ~10–12 feet
Fragrance: Mild–moderate floral

Pretty in Pink takes everything we love about Eden and turns the pink dial up. Deep pink blooms with a soft silvery reverse cover the canes in generous clusters. The flowers are very full and globular, with that lush, romantic look that shines in both the garden and the vase. This is a strong, upright climber that can easily dress an arbor or pergola, and its improved disease resistance makes it a wonderful choice for gardeners in more challenging climates. Pretty in Pink delivers a pop of color and old-fashioned abundance!

Eden Climber® Red

Height: ~10–12 feet (typical for the Eden series)
Fragrance: Classic rose fragrance, medium

For gardeners who love the Eden series but crave red, Eden Red is a showstopper. Large, fully double blooms in deep, velvety crimson make a dramatic statement on fences, arches, and pergolas. The fragrance is a classic rose scent, and the plant is bred for good disease resistance, making it as practical as it is beautiful. We love pairing Eden Red with pale climbers like Honeymoon or Pearly Gates for a romantic, high-contrast display.

Arborose® Laguna™

Height: ~8–10 feet
Fragrance: Exceptionally strong, complex (lemon, lemongrass, rose geranium, patchouli notes)

Laguna is for the fragrance lovers. Deep pink, very full blooms appear in clusters all season, but it’s the scent that truly stops you in your tracks—rich rose layered with bright citrus and a hint of earthiness. Laguna climbs vigorously to around 8–10 feet and has excellent disease resistance, making it a workhorse for arbors, pergolas, and tall trellises. If you want a climber you can smell from across the garden, Laguna is the one.

Pearly Gates™

Height: ~8–12 feet
Fragrance: Strong, sweet, spicy

Pearly Gates™ is all soft, angelic pink and big, billowy blooms with an old-fashioned form. It’s bred from the classic ‘America’ climber, but instead of bright coral, it offers pastel, pearly rose tones and a strong, sweet-spice fragrance. It blooms on both old and new wood, which means generous flushes from late spring into fall. With 8–12 feet of growth, Pearly Gates is wonderful on larger arches, along porches, or trained over a gate where its scent can greet you every time you pass.

Cécile Brunner

Height: ~15–20 feet
Fragrance: Sweet, light to medium

Known as “The Sweetheart Rose,” Cécile Brunner is beloved for its perfectly formed, miniature hybrid-tea-style buds in soft, silvery pink. The climbing form is vigorous and can easily reach 15–20 feet, making it ideal for large arches, tall fences, or to soften the corner of a house or barn. The fragrance is sweet and nostalgic rather than overpowering, and the small, dainty blooms come in clusters from late spring to frost. If you want a romantic, slightly wild look with a vintage feel, this is your climber.

Cosmic Clouds™

Height: Large shrub / climber, typically 8–10+ feet when trained
Fragrance: Strong, rich, perfumed

Cosmic Clouds is for gardeners who want drama. Deep magenta-purple blooms with a silvery reverse create a moody, celestial effect—like storm clouds lit from within. The flowers are packed with petals and generous fragrance, and they appear in big clusters that make an impact from a distance. Technically a large shrub, Cosmic Clouds can be easily trained as a climber in warmer climates, creating a bold, modern twist on the classic rose-covered arch.

How to Choose the Right Climber for Your Garden

When you’re deciding which climbing rose (or roses!) to plant, a few questions help narrow it down:

How tall should it get?

Smaller spaces, fences, and compact arbors: Quicksilver, Honeymoon, Colette (around 7–10 feet).
Larger arches, pergolas, and walls: Eden, Eden Pretty in Pink, Eden Red, Pearly Gates, Laguna, Cosmic Clouds, climbing Cécile Brunner (10 feet and up).

How much fragrance do you want?

Soft / light: Eden, Quicksilver, Eden Pretty in Pink, Eden Red
Medium: Honeymoon, Pearly Gates, Cécile Brunner.
Big, bold fragrance: Colette, Laguna, Cosmic Clouds.

What color story are you dreaming of?

Soft blush & romantic pastels: Eden, Colette, Honeymoon, Pearly Gates, Cécile Brunner.
Richer pinks & reds: Eden Pretty in Pink, Eden Red, Laguna, Cosmic Clouds.
Cool-toned & unique: Quicksilver’s silvery lavender pairs beautifully with whites and deep purples.

Bringing Climbing Roses Into Your Garden

All of these climbers reward a little early training with years of bloom:

Give them a sturdy support—arch, fence, pergola, obelisk.
Fan out the canes as horizontally as you can; more sideways canes mean more blooms along the length of the stem.
Feed and water consistently their as they establish those strong root systems.

In Closing...

At Grace Rose Farm, we think of climbing roses as living architecture. They frame views, soften hard lines, and create moments of pure magic in everyday spaces. Whether you’re dreaming of a soft blush arbor or a dramatic wall of crimson and plum, one (or several!) of these ten climbers will happily take center stage in your garden.
