This weekend marked five years since my dad passed from Alzheimer’s. He was a larger than life character - funny, kind, gentle, humble, caring, loving, supportive, encouraging, chivalrous, and so much more. He taught me about life - to work and play hard, never accept mediocrity, and instilled a passion of music within me. My time with him was cut way too short but I am forever grateful that I got to call him dad.
He could make people of all ages laugh through his jokes and elaborate stories. Looking back at my childhood, I’m convinced many of my friends came to visit just so they can get a laugh from my dad. The strange voices and equally silly facial expressions he would make were a highlight at any moment.
I wish more than anything that he had a chance to meet to Seraphina. He was made to be a grandpa and would have been the best. Those who were lucky enough to know him would not argue that for one second. He was amazing around kids and even planned to spend part of his retirement volunteering at libraries to read books to children.
As my dad’s memory and health declined, my mom found solace in the Alzheimer’s Association and the support system they provided. This is a wonderful organization that is fighting to eliminate the disease through research while also providing care and support for all that are affected.
In honor of my dad, and all who suffer from a form of dementia, we will donate 25% off the proceeds of Love Song sales to the Alzheimer’s Association. Purple is the organization’s color and Love Song is the most beautiful purple/lavender rose we grow.
Our farm would not have started without my dad. The summer that we expected my dad to pass, Gracie and I moved into my mom’s home to be with her during that difficult period of watching him deteriorate. It is at my mom’s home that Gracie and I bonded over rose gardening. We planted dozens of roses at my mom’s and a spark light within us.

Life is short. Sometimes too short. It’s a crazy world we’re living in right now and although we may not always be able to see or visit with our loved ones, please find a way to tell them you love them.
