Creating a beautiful summer table with roses
Summer is undoubtably my favorite season. Long days, lots of sunshine, outdoor entertaining and an endless supply of roses.
We recently celebrated Seraphina’s birthday with family and friends just as summer was starting. When we were in the process of adopting I wished for a summer baby so we could have her birthdays outside and with plenty of our roses. We lucked out!
When planning Seraphina’s birthday I wanted it to feel elevated, but not stuffy, and it was really important to incorporate pieces I already owned. We had a tight budget and this celebration was the first time most of our family and friends were meeting Seraphina so it was important to make it memorable. I love mixing chippy vintage furniture with mix-matched plates and glasses. Silver flatware on casual linen tablecloths draped over farmhouse tables is the perfect mix of elegant yet casual. Every table we dressed for all 100 guests was slightly different and came together just as I had hoped.
Our friend and wedding florist, Morgan of Wild Muse Floral, used our Artisan Bouquets and Blush Bouquets to create whimsical centerpieces. She kept them really simple, without greens, since we had floral printed tablecloths and patterns on the plates. I love how sweet the centerpieces turned out and that they were made from a single bouquet! The roses were definitely the stars of the tables!
To create the look, here’s what we suggest:
- A glass compote (like this one)
- Floral Frog (for holding the stems)
- Sticky Clay (for your Floral Frog!)
- Floral Tape (if you prefer over a frog)
- Floral Shears
- Rose Strippers (for those who want to remove their thorns in the least damaging way)
Morgan and I will show you how she created Seraphina’s centerpieces on next Wednesday’s blog! All you’ll need is your roses and supplies; the instructions are complementary! If you don’t want to design with a compote, any vase you have will work beautifully. Morgan will demonstrate how to process, trim and arrange your stems. There’s nothing like the scent and sight of garden-grown roses decorating the table, whether entertaining for others or enjoying a simple meal at home with family.
