A Rosarian’s Guide to Rose Series

Not all roses are created equal—and rose series are one of the best clues that a plant has been bred with a purpose. Think of a series as a promise: a shared set of traits you can count on, from fragrance and flower form to growth habit and garden resilience.

What is a “Rose Series”?

A rose series is a curated family of roses—usually developed by a breeder or brought together under a program—built around consistent performance goals. Some series prioritize heat tolerance. Others aim for fragrance, compact container habits, or low-maintenance landscape coverage. When you know the series, you can shop with confidence—and plant with peace of mind.

Which Series Should I Pick?

If you want fragrance first…

Plant where you’ll brush past it daily—near patios, doors, and paths.

Choose: Parfuma®, Romantica®, Eleganza®, Easy to Love®

If you garden in heat and blazing sun…

Look for color that holds and plants that keep blooming without sulking.

Choose: Sunbelt®, Kolorscape®

If you want “English garden” romance…

Think ruffled petals, romantic form, and that soft, storybook look.

Choose: Veranda®, Romantica®, Parfuma®

If you’re planting containers & patios…

Compact plants, nonstop bloom, and easy care—perfect by the front door.

Choose: Veranda®, Sunblaze®, Pretty Polly®, Brick House®

If you want low-maintenance landscape coverage…

Great for borders, slopes, and “plant it once, enjoy it for years.”

Choose: Meidiland®, Happy Trails®, Kolorscape®

If you need roses for arbors & trellises…

Choose climbers bred to be trained and to rebloom beautifully.

Choose: Arborose®

Tip: If you’re torn, prioritize your space (container vs. bed), your climate (heat vs. mixed seasons), and your why (fragrance, cutting, or easy landscape color). The “right” rose feels effortless in its place.

Meet the Series

Below, you’ll find a short introduction to each rose series and what tends to unite the varieties within it—growth habit, bloom style, and performance goals. (As with all roses, individual cultivars vary—but series often point you in the right direction.)

Kolorscape®

  • Generous repeat bloom through the growing season
  • Resilient plants designed for dependable performance

A Grace Rose Farm Note

When you’re choosing roses, you’re not just choosing a bloom—you’re choosing a lifestyle for your garden. If you want the most “effortless” experience, match your rose to your space and climate first, then let flower form and fragrance be the finishing touch. That’s how you end up with roses that don’t just survive… they truly belong.

Happy Gardening!
